The Brian Crower Honda/Acura Valvetrain Retainers are precision-engineered components designed to enhance the performance and reliability of B18C, B16A, H22, K20A, K20Z, F20C, and F22C engines. Available in either titanium or steel variants, these retainers play a crucial role in connecting to the valve stem and securely holding the valve springs against the cylinder head. Sometimes referred to as cylinder head retainers, they are indispensable for preserving the integrity of the engine's combustion chambers.

Steel retainers are made from Hardened 4140 Chromoly Steel.  BC recommends using steel retainers for all high mileage, dual spring applications (over 7000 miles annually) or when looking to cut expenses.  BC titanium retainers are CNC machined from 6AL4V round bar titanium to exacting tolerances. BC recommends using titanium retainers on dual springs ONLY if limited street use (less than 7000 miles per year). Although titanium is approximately 40% lighter, and is perceived as stronger than steel, it will wear over time on a dual spring setup.

Titanium retainers, being significantly lighter than their steel counterparts, offer an advantage in reducing overall weight within the valvetrain system, thereby increasing efficiency and allowing for higher engine revs without compromising valvetrain control. Both retainers and keepers are critical in maintaining proper valve spring pressure and positioning around the valves, ensuring optimal engine performance and longevity. For those with late-model cylinder heads post-2004, the BC2940 keepers may be necessary to complement the BC2010 or BC2011 retainers. Honda altered the keeper groove angles, potentially causing compatibility issues with stock keepers/locks.
